CATHOLIC HEART
WORKCAMP MISSION
Our Mission is
Twofold.....
First:
To share the
love of Jesus and serve the neglected, brokenhearted and
marginalized in any way needed. The Catholic HEART Workcamp
mission is to revitalize communities and beautify homes for the
elderly, disabled and those who cannot afford needed repairs.
Our goal is to inspire participants to serve in their local
communities.
Second:
To empower participants to live as Disciples of Christ through
serving others. To foster the spiritual growth of each
participant through the sacraments, Catholic faith sharing and
prayer.

Journal Entries for Catholic Heart Work Camp –
Jamaica 2009 –
There is a lot I could say about this trip. On the days before
we left I really did not want to go. I had a lot of reasons not
to but now that I think of them, they were not good excuses.
Before this I would have to say I did not know where I stood in
my faith. I felt kind of lost, but as the week went on I saw God
was really there for you and was working through me. I think he
brought all these people into my life to show me what I mean to
Him. There was one guy that really stood out and was a great
help to me. His name is Popeye. He was always with me and I
trusted him 100%, and he trusted me the same. I felt safe with
him. As the week went on he told me about his crazy past and how
he has changed because of his faith. He wants to keep his faith
and grow stronger with God. I believe he can and will do it. I
now feel I have family in Jamaica. It is amazing how with so
little the people there can be so happy. I want to be like that.
I feel like I have changed a lot this week. I have changed my
plans for the future again. I want to help people and I am going
to by first, by selling rosaries for Jamaica which are made by
Popeye. I want to return to Jamaica to build more houses. It was
very hard to leave when I feel I now have a brother in Jamaica.
I will go back next summer for sure. Ev’ry ting is IRIE.

When we choose to follow Christ and respond to the call of
service to others …. We choose a Life with a new Rhythm! The
world invites us to rush through life, to keep going, to get
ahead and achieve for ourselves. Yes, we should achieve, but
this is the beat of the world. God invites us to be a part of
His rhythm, to walk at His pace, to stop and look at the world
around us and to be a part of a Cadence of change! Sure we can
have high goals, but within the motion of life we must look at
the needs in our world where suffering, loneliness, hunger,
poverty, and injustice are real! God has been calling an army of
young people to serve through Catholic Heart Workcamp. When we
come together as the body of Christ we are in harmony with one
another and with our God who calls us to choose a life with a
new rhythm!
